Japanese Girl With Beautiful Hair & Makeup in Harajuku

This 23-year-old Japanese girl caught our attention because of her beautiful hair and makeup as much as her cool fashion. She was photographed on Omotesando Dori in the Harajuku area of Tokyo. Her outfit consists of a knit sweater dress with oversized sleeves, a wild multicolored crochet or knit scarf with a cute stuffed mouse attached to it, black leggings that are ripped/cut on only one leg, and black shoes. Her purse is pearlescent with a vintage-looking cloth pocket on the outside and she’s got a pair of full-sized Panasonic headphones around her neck. Even the shopping bag that she’s carrying – with the big dollar sign on the side – looks cool.

Unfortunately, she didn’t have time to share all of the brands she’s wearing with us, but she did tell us that her favorite musical acts are Patrick Wolf and Dandi Wind.

Japanese Girl w/ Blue Hair & Tabi Boots in HarajukuWe photographed this stylish and cute Japanese girl with blue hair in Harajuku. Her look includes her awesome hair color, which is complemented by the blue shirt that she has tied around her head, a blue knit scarf, a blue denim jacket, a knit sweater with long sleeves that looks like arm warmers, high-waisted pants with a naval themed print, and traditional Japanese tabi (split toe) boots by Martin Margiela.

Her bags are just as cool as her outfit. One is a leopard (plush leopard animal, not leopard print) handbag with a jeweled collar. The other is a large eco bag that looks like it’s been hand painted with artwork and the word “KISS”. She’s also carrying an iPhone or iPod Touch. She didn’t tell us what brands she’s wearing, but she was very nice!

Harajuku Girls - Meet the True Fashion Icons of Japan

'Harajuku girls', popularly known as the 'fashion aficionados' or the 'beauty stars of Japan', are best known all over the world for their unique costumes, which are made in various styles of clothing that originated in the rich culture of some of the major cities of Japan. They have been named after the very popular Harajuku district in Tokyo and were made popular in the West by the 'Love.Angel.Music.Baby' album released in 2004 by Gwen Stefani.

Their Clothing Styles

These young, beautiful fashion icons are Japanese teenage girls who gather in a narrow street of 'Takeshita' every weekend and dress themselves up as the baby dolls of the Lolita-esque caricatures. A large number of fashion styles, including the cyber fashion, Gothic Maid, Wamono, Gothic Lolita, Second-Hand Fashion, and Decorah, can be noticed among these young ladies.

They can be often seen wearing dark outfits combined with traditional Japanese clothing, such as Kimonos and fans. Some of them also wear fake bandages and blood and carry things, such as cell phones, hello kitties, and photo stickers, which symbolize modern Japan. The varied clothing styles of these girls are beautifully featured by 'FRUiTS', the most popular Japanese street-fashion magazine.

Their Purpose

Why do these Harajuku girls dress in such outrageous outfits every weekend? Is it their love for fashion that drives them to do so? The answer is 'No'. There are much deeper reasons behind it. The weekly ceremony that lasts just for a few hours allows them to not only spend their spare time and money, but also momentarily escape the strict rules of the male-dominated Japanese society. Outrageous dressing styles actually symbolize the oppression of the female gender and their attempt to seek their individuality and independence to express.

Bald Japanese Models Run Wild in Harajuku

While walking in Harajuku and Shibuya over the weekend, we stumbled across something very strange. A large group of bald Japanese models walking around together in short dresses with a camera crew. Needless to say, these girls were causing mayhem everywhere they went as shocked passersby stopped to try to get a better look. So what exactly was going on that would get that much attention in an area like Harajuku where the strangest things are basically normal?

Turns out it was a promotion for a Japanese hairstyles magazine! And, the girls weren’t actually bald at all, they were all wearing bald wigs, or bald caps or whatever they’re called. And, to make things even more bizarre, all of the girls weren’t even Japanese – there were some foreigner girls mixed in the group for an unknown reason.

The Japanese hair magazine that the girls were promoting is called HairMag.jp and the slogan of the magazine, or at least of the bald models promotion over the weekend in Harajuku, is “Where is my hairstyle?” Apparently that’s a reference to the fact that all of the girls walking around, and some of the pictures on their website, are bald. Crazy idea for a hair magazine – promote hairless girls!

Anyways, the cool thing about this whole store is the pictures, so check them out and see for yourself how very strange it was…

Not only are these girls carrying bags with the magazine URL on them, but they have it on the back of their bald heads (or wigs) as well:

The official website of the hair magazine is here, but it is only available in Japanese.
